Knock Out Parkinson’s Disease — One Punch at a Time

At the Lake County YMCA, we’re proud to offer Rock Steady Boxing (RSB)—a non-contact, boxing-inspired fitness program designed specifically for individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). This empowering program helps participants improve their strength, balance, coordination, and confidence—while taking a proactive approach to managing symptoms and improving quality of life.

Rock Steady Boxing is scientifically supported and proven to help slow the progression of Parkinson’s Disease. Through intense, focused exercise routines based on boxing fundamentals, participants experience:

  • Improved motor function and posture

  • Reduced muscle stiffness and pain

  • Greater confidence and self-management

  • Decreased fear of falling and fewer hospitalizations

  • Better performance in everyday activities

  • Renewed sense of capability and connection

RSB is not just fitness—it’s a community and a fight back against the limits of Parkinson’s.

Founded by Scott C. Newman, who was diagnosed with PD at age 40, Rock Steady Boxing was born from the belief that fighting back with purpose can improve both body and spirit. In partnership with former Golden Gloves boxer Vince Perez, a system was developed that combines high-intensity boxing drills, functional fitness training, and emotional empowerment—tailored to those battling PD at every stage.
