West End YMCA at Union Village

Responding To Need

70% of adults and nearly 26% of adolescents in Lake County are overweight or obese, increasing their risk for chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
The current generation of children may be the first in 200 years to have a shorter lifespan than their parents.
Create welcoming, barrier-free spaces and diverse program opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to exercise and stay active.
13% of our county’s children live in poverty. Lower income children enter Kindergarten 12-18 months behind. That gap widens over time.

Provide affordable, licensed child care, before/after school care and summer camp, aimed at offering critical early learning skills and closing the achievement gap.

The hours of 3-6pm on school days are a time when kids are most likely to engage in destructive behavior.

Create spaces and programs to keep youth engaged and learning all year long.
Our new Teen Lab will support an extended school day through tutoring, mentoring and leadership training.

(Together with Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools)

1 in 3 Lake County residents will be 60 years or older
by the year 2030 with most of the growth after 2020
being those 75 years and older.

Offer a wide variety of programs and network of support for seniors to stay physically and socially active.

Ensure our facility and programs meet the needs of those with mobility challenges.
