PHILS STORY

February 11, 2020

Some years ago I received a Y membership as a Christmas gift from my wife and mother-in-law. I was out of shape and overweight at 285lbs. I started swimming and doing a little cardio. After a short time, I started to lose weight.
With inspiration from Rosie who worked in the Wellness Center, I kept at it and lost about 40 lbs. It inspired me to keep going. I remember the day I received the results from my labs and my cholesterol, blood pressure
and triglyceride levels were all down. The big step was going below the 200-pound mark and I did it, I reached 165 lbs.

My week consists of swimming, cardio, and weights six days a week. I cycle on an average of 5,000 miles a year (first-century ride at 68), hike, love to paddleboard and kayak. I find that some people are a little unnerved when they reach the milestone of 70, but I rejoiced because of where I’m at. I really enjoy my life; I have made many Y friends and look forward to my daily visits to the YMCA!

Thanks, YMCA! Also, thank you to my wife Becky and my mother-in-law!
