January 29, 2019

Thanks to our members we were able to take a bite out of hunger in Lake County. In December 2018 the Lake County YMCA asked our members to drop off jars of peanut butter (and non-nut butters) and jelly. Our goal was simple; to collect as much peanut butter (and non-butters) and jelly to distribute to local food banks and food pantries in January 2019.

The Y collected 2030 jars of peanut butter and jelly.  Central Y in Painesville, took the lead by collecting 1029, followed by West End Y in Willoughby with 760 and East End Y in Madison collected 241.

The organizations serving the community in need of food are very grateful.

The largest portion of the peanut butter and jelly went to End 68 Hours of Hunger: which a year ago served 300+ children is now serving over 500+ every weekend.  The other community organizations that received peanut butter and jelly are St. Gabriel's Food Bank, Madison Food Bank, Madison Ministerial Association, Vineyard Church, Eastlake Kiwanis, St. Noel, First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby, Willoughby-Eastlake Success Academy and McKinley Community Center.

Thank you once again for all those who donated, we are so proud of our members and our community who helped those in need.
