Interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals. Creates a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities. Instructs usage of Wellness Center equipment in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.

Requirements:

The Lake County YMCA is seeking Group Exercise Instructors at our West End Y in Willoughby. The job  description and qualifications are listed below. This is a part-time, non-exempt position and you must be available to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekends. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Coaches members in support of their desired behavior change. Regularly checks on members’ progress in meeting personal and program goals.
  2. Answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  3. Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture. Creates a safe environment where all individuals feel welcomed and respected.
  4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA. Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
  5. May conduct post-enrollment interviews to understand new members’ definition of well-being, personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests and develops plans to meet their individual needs.
  6. Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.
  7. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Maintains all appropriate forms and documentation in accordance with these policies.
  8. Handles and resolves incidents and hazardous conditions and informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. Previous customer service or related experience. Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  3. Required certifications: CPR, AED, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in personal training or YMCA Foundations of Strength & Conditioning certification.
  4. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire.
  5. Previous experience providing instructions, training others or other related experience preferred.
  6. Ability to communicate course material in a clear and understandable manner.
  7. Ability to teach effectively in different learning environments
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to conduct classes and activities.
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
