Requirements:

The Lake County YMCA is seeking an assistant swim coach at the West End Y in Willoughby. The job description and qualifications are listed below. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Under the direction of the head coach, coaches assigned team members in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
  2. Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  3. Conveys information on swimming and youth programs, schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
  4. Provides opportunities for all participants to develop skills and promote their involvement as part of a team. Sets the example for good behavior and sportsmanship.
  5. Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
  6. Attends staff meetings and training as scheduled.
  7. Organize events and participation in assigned meets. Attend scheduled meets to supervise and support participants.
  8. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of competitive swim programs.
  2. Certifications: YMCA Lifeguard or Equivalent, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
  3. One to two years related experience preferred; Experience creating workouts and specialized training for competitive swim.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper swim techniques.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
