Description:
Supervises Lifeguards and program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives for Aquatic Safety.
Requirements:
The Lake County YMCA is seeking a lifeguard coordinator for the West End Y in Willoughby. This is a part-time variable hour position. The job description and qualifications are listed below. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Trains, develops and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Assists Program Director with reviews and evaluating staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Ensures records or staff certifications are current and complete.
- Schedules and leads Lifeguard classes, Lifeguard In-service training and performs Lifeguard audits regularly.
- Assists in marketing and distribution of program information.
- Adjust lifeguard schedule as needed.
- Steps in to cover on an as-needed basis.
- Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
- Performs chemical testing and pool maintenance when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 21.
- Certifications: current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, or equivalent, including Lifeguard, Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
- Must be able to remain alert.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
- Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and
loud situations.
