The Lake County YMCA is seeking bus drivers for the Central YMCA in Painesville, East End YMCA in Madison and West End YMCA in Willoughby.  This is a part-time, non-exempt position.

DAYS: Monday through Friday

HOURS: 8:30am - 10:30am and 2:00pm - 4:00pm

  1. Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere.
  2. Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  3. Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and
    maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
  4. Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
  5. Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
  6. Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  7. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
  8. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.


  1. Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver.
  2. Possess appropriate class license.
  3. Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
  4. Completes required Y provided training/certification within 30 days of hire: CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention.
  5. Desire and ability to work with children.
  6. Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.


  • Light work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to to lift, carry, push, pull
    or otherwise move objects.
  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
  • Frequently subject to environmental conditions and unstable surfaces. Activities occur mostly outside. Standing, sitting, stooping,
    kneeling, and crouching frequently throughout the work shift. Use hands and fingers for fine motor skills frequently. Walking
    throughout the classroom, facility, property and ability to climb stairs frequently.
  • Have visual acuity to determine safety, security and cleanliness of participants in the program as well as the facility.
  • Receive detailed information through sound as well as express
    through spoken word.
  • Read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
