The Lake County YMCA is seeking a Day Camp Coordinator for our East End summer program. The job description and qualifications are listed below. This is a part-time, non-exempt/hourly position. Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  2. Hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Assists Program Director/ Executive with reviews and evaluating staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  3. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information including welcome letters, rosters, newsletters, etc.
  4. Monitor/approve time off requests.
  5. Monitor programs to ensure developmentally appropriate practices are done and the safety and individual needs of each camper is being met. 
  6. With guidance from the Program Director, develops, monitors, and works within the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  7. Take inventory of all supplies and make fiscally responsible purchases as needed.
  8. Maintains buses and schedule of bus drivers.
  9. Steps in to cover groups on an as-needed basis.
  10. Creates enthusiasm among campers and staff.
  11. Maintain positive, professional and consistent communication with parents and inform the Youth Development Director of any issues or concerns that may affect the experience of campers or staff.
  12. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code, as well as all administrative needs such as weekly/daily rosters, balance due, medicine distribution, review and approval of all counselor activity plans, and any other administrative needs. 
  13. Be a professional role model, specifically modeling the YMCA Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all actions and conversations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  2. Minimum 21 years of age.
  3. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention and Living Our Cause.
  4. Two or more years related experience preferred.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  6. Possess strong communication and organizational skills with great attention to detail
  7. Ability to follow directions, have strong leadership skills, be self-motivated and possess knowledge of group work principles and processes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Medium work. Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.

Frequently subject to environmental conditions and unstable surfaces. Activities occur mostly outside. Standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently throughout the work shift. Use hands and fingers for fine motor skills frequently. Walking throughout the classroom, facility, property and ability to climb stairs frequently. Have visual acuity to determine safety, security and cleanliness of participants in the program as well as the facility. Receive detailed information through sound as well as express through spoken word. Read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
