The Lake County YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Director at the Central YMCA in Painesville. The job description and qualifications are listed below. This is a full-time, exempt/salaried position.   1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  2. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  3. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
  4. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Maintains accurate records of staff certifications.
  5. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, and CPR trainings.
  6. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  7. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  8. Fosters a culture of collaboration with peers to develop innovative programs, identify possible program-related grants, improve quality, and ensure consistency across the association.
  9. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  10. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  11. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  12. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  13. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  14. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.


  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  2. One to two years related experience preferred.
  3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of  the community.
  4. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification. Oxygen Administration certification required within 30 days of hire.
  5. Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification Crossover prior to expiration.
  6. Must be able demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with individual’s certification standards.


Medium work. Exerting 75 pounds of force rarely (i.e. removing someone from the pool in a rescue), and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. Frequently subject to environmental conditions- heat and humidity both inside and outside. May occur mostly outside. Ability to: pass lifeguard water test; stand, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently throughout the work shift; Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods; use hands and fingers for fine motor skills frequently; Walking on a variety of uneven surfaces and climbing stairs frequently; have visual acuity to determine safety and security of participants in the program as well as the facility; receive detailed information through sound as well as express through spoken word; read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
