West End Y at Union Village FAQ

JUST THE FACTS

VISION 

Q: How are the senior center, schools and YMCA collaborating with programs? (Vision)

A: Actual program collaborations are yet to be defined. Sharing of space has been defined in the Field House and in the 8 lane competition pool with the School District. Schedules for the 2019-2020 school year will be worked on before this school year is out and the YMCA will be able to generate somewhat firm schedules for these spaces. Actual program collaborations like land exercise will likely start out as stand alone programs for each entity. There will be great opportunities to collaborate with the city and Schools as we open and start to see the demand.

Q: What other shared spaces are there besides the field house and pool?

A: There are many opportunities available for collaboration with both the Willoughby-Eastlake Schools as well as the Willoughby Senior Center that we will continue to explore.

Q: What is going to happen to the current Y building?

A: The current West End YMCA will be sold to provide funding for the new building.

Q: What does the Y look like? Can we get pictures to share?

A: Frequent updates and photos will be posted to our social media and website.  Visit us on social media @LakeCountyY and on our website www.NewWestEndYMCA.org

Q: When will the new YMCA be opening?

A:The expected open date is September 2019. he expected open date is September 2019.

MEMBERSHIP

Q: Will there be more swim times for classes and open swim?

A: Schedules are being reviewed ahead of the opening to expand both open swim times and water programs. More to come as the year progresses

Q: Do I need to reapply for my membership?

A: No, your membership is good at all branches and pools within the Lake County YMCA system.  

Q: Can I use my senior center membership at the Y?

A: Senior Center memberships are not accepted, however Silver Sneakers or a similar third party sponsorship program will be accepted

Q: Will membership rates increase?

A: Membership rates are reviewed on an annual basis for the entire association. Rates for 2019 have been reviewed and will not result in a rate increase. Any future rate increases are independent from the opening of our new West End YMCA.

Q: Can I use my senior center membership at the Y?

A: As a member of the Lake County YMCA, members will enjoy the added benefit of a brand new location which will enhance our programs and services.

PROGRAMS

Q: Will there be additional swim times for classes and open swim?

A: Schedules are being reviewed ahead of the opening to expand both open swim times and water programs. More to come as the year progresses

CHILD WATCH

Q: What are the hours going to be for child watch?

A: The are no scheduled changes to child watch at this time. Currently child watch is open Monday - Thursday: 8:30 am - 1:00 pm & 4:00 pm-8:00 pm and Friday & Saturday: 8:30 am - 1:00 pm

Q: Will child watch be free or will there be a fee?

The fee for child watch is $2 per month for members.

MISCELLANEOUS 

Q:How will people "flow" from the school to the Y and back again?

A: Sports Teams and Physical Education classes will enter with coaches or teachers from the school side of the building. All others will need to enter using the front door of the West End YMCA.

Q:Do we need to buy products through the school?

A: No. There is no obligation from any member to purchase products from the school, however, it is encouraged to check out the share spaces of Union Village and all it has to offer.

SECURITY

Q: Do the high school drills i.e.: fire, lockdown, active shooter affect the Y?

A: The YMCA takes all safety and security measures very seriously. Because of the nature of the share facility spaces, the YMCA will adopt and abide by all protocols, drills and procedures set forth by those of Union Village.

Q: How many entrances will there be to the Y?

A: There is one, main entrance to the YMCA, which faces SR 84 (Ridge Rd). Inside the building there are 2 service/staff entrances to the YMCA's portion of the building (not including the field house or pool) There are 2 entryways into the YMCA from the Field House. Both in the shared corridor with the Senior Ctr on the first and second floors.
